The New Zealand Mural Contest & Arts Festival - Katikati
The New Zealand Mural Contest and Arts Festival is a biennial event organised by Katikati Open-Air Art. The theme for the 2013 festival is “Cultural Encounters”. The headline event is the mural contest. Open to all, artists submit a small version of their proposed work and finalists are chosen from the best of these.
During the festival itself, the artists paint their full size murals (2.4m x 1.2m) in public over the course of the week, with the winning mural declared at the end.
As well as the mural contest, the festival hosts a sculpture contest, a photographic contest, and the whole of Katikati joins in with a variety of fringe events such as music concerts, theatre and street entertainment.
